The School Calendar has been printed!!!

A few weeks back I posted a message about the day I spent at Thorpe Infant School photographing the children for their 2008 Calendar. Each year the school produce a calendar and the money raised from selling them helps to buy all sorts of equipment for the children. Anyway, today, I was presented with a copy of the final printed calendar (printed by Procter & Gamble) which I must say looks fantastic. Mike Jones, a great friend of mine, and father to Laurence who is a pupil at the school, told me that they're selling really well ... which is great news!

I've attached a scan showing the front cover of the calendar, signed by my new Buddy Laurence :o)

More catching up ...

Here's a couple more photographs that I've edited today...

These particular shots were taken using only available light, during a photo shoot earlier in the year.

Enjoy :o)

Catching up on some editing ...

Whilst I was working on a couple of the photos I took today of Anne from our walk, I thought I'd use some of the time to edit a few photos I've been meaning to do for a while now.

Here's one of the images from a portrait shoot a few weeks back ...

The Boxing Day ritual ...

Hi All :o) Hope you all had a great Christmas Day but aren't feeling the affects of overindulging too much :o)

It seemed that everyone in our neighbourhood had the same idea today of going for a walk to burn off yesterday's Christmas Dinner. Anne and I headed over to Penn Wood which is about 4 miles from our house, and went for a stroll, making the most of the great weather we had today.

Naturally the trusty camera was 'in hand' cos you never know when a photo will present itself :o)

More from France ...

Here's another of the photos I took whilst out in France that I found whilst sorting through my external hard drive the other day. This particular photo was taken on the beach in Cancale, Brittany where I took the chain photo shown below.

Well the weekend is now upon us and it's only 4 days till Christmas, so I'll catch up with you soon :o)

Another shot from today ...

Here's another of the photos I took of Barry whilst out today. What I like about this shot is the rough condition of the wall and also the repeating pattern dark to light.

Out n' About ...

I had a blast this morning out with a mate of mine, Barry, taking urban portrait shots near to where I live. In particular I wanted to use my Nikon SB800 Speedlight as 'off camera' flash to add a bit of drama and the attached image is one of the ones I came up with.

For this image I put the flash on a light stand just to the left of the frame pointing mainly at Barry's face but including some of the brick wall. I also rolled up a magazine and slid it over the flash head to turn it into a spotlight for more control over where the light fell.

Another shot from France...

Here's another of the shots I took whilst out in France. This was taken on the beach when in Cancale, Brittany after having been to the most amazing sea food restaurant.

Note to self ... must have the lobster platter when we return :o)

Some shots from France earlier this year...

I was having a sort through of one of my external hard drives today when I came across a folder of photographs I'd taken whilst Anne and I were out in France earlier this year. This particular shot was taken when we stopped by the side of the road for a spot of lunch when out for the day with my Uncle Jeff & Aunty Janet touring some of the World War 2 battle locations; this was on the outskirts of a village called Goupilliers which was the starting point of the British advance to the Orne River at Grimbosq Forest.

Enjoy :o)

Layer Marney Tower

Here's a shot I took of Layer Marney Tower in Colchester a few weeks back when photographing a wedding. This is a 5 shot HDR image (High Dynamic Range) that I've combined together and then processed twice. To get the final tone, I've added a couple of adjustment layers in photoshop to tone down the red in the brickwork and to finish off I added a slight vignette to draw attention into the centre of the image.

Have a great week :o)

We all have our hero's ...

Now I'm guessing this wont mean much if anything to those of you reading this but the other day I was going through a Photoshop Lightroom blog as I do every day by a guy by the name of Matt Kloskowski when I happened to notice my name in the text.

Ever since I got interested in Photoshop and Photography I've looked to the best in the industry, who's work I aspire to, to learn from ... people such as Scott Kelby, Joe McNally, Damien Lovegrove and Matt Kloskowski. I was fortunate to first meet up with Matt, (World Class Photographer, Photoshop Educator and best selling author) when out in Las Vegas last September for the annual Photoshop World Conference and for Matt to now refer to me as a 'friend' as he did in his blog entry gave me a real boost.

See ... told you it wouldn't mean much to you but what the heck :o)

Now that's what I call "Soft Light" ...

The other day I was doing an indoor photo shoot with the help of my 1m square Elinchrom Softbox; somthing I've not used for a number of weeks now ... and I'm beginning to think I really should use it alot more. The reason being is that the light it produces, is incredibly soft ... perfectly suited for portrait work.

This particular photo shoot was of two sisters ... the daughters of Mark & Zoe Austwick.

Once I'd set up my rig, making use of their net curtains as a backdrop, in no time at all I'd filled up two, 2Gb Sandisk Extreme III memory cards. When I've edited a few more of the images I'll be sure to post some up here for you to see so you can see what I mean about 'soft light'.

That's all for now, so have a great week and I'll catch up with you soon :o)
